What is it?

A PowerLink is an adaptive device that allows individuals to control electrical appliances or devices using an accessible switch. It acts as a bridge between a standard plug-in device (like a fan, blender, or light) and a switch, enabling users with physical disabilities to independently operate everyday items. PowerLinks offer multiple modes of control, such as timed, latched (on/off), or momentary activation, depending on the user’s needs and abilities.

How to use it?

To use a PowerLink, plug it into a wall outlet and connect an electronic device to its outlet port. Then plug an adaptive switch into the PowerLink’s switch input. When the user activates the switch, the connected device will respond based on the selected mode (e.g., staying on for a set time or only while the switch is held down). This setup allows the user to interact with appliances safely and with physical effort appropriate for their body.

Why use it?

PowerLinks promote independence and participation by giving students with physical or motor disabilities control over their environment. In inclusive classrooms, they can be used in activities like cooking, science experiments, or art projects, allowing all students to actively engage in hands-on learning. At home or in the community, they empower individuals to complete functional tasks like turning on a light or operating a fan, supporting autonomy and confidence in daily routines.
