This presentation will introduce the Blocks4All programming environment, an iPad application that can be used to program the Dash robot. The application is accessible with both Switch Control and Voice Over on the iPad. The presentation aims to motivate the need to teach programming concepts to students with disabilities and demonstrate how to use the Blocks4All programming environment to code a robot. We would also love to gather feedback on how to improve the application to work even better for these students.

Learning Objectives

  1. Gain an understanding of the benefits of teaching programming concepts to students with disabilities.
  2. Learn about the programming environment for switch accessible coding available with Block4All
  3. Learn how students can program the Dash robot using switch control and Voice Over on the iPad

Presenters

Linda Doehle, AT Specialist


Linda Doehle started her career as a software engineer after completing her degrees in Computer Science and Mathematics at Whitworth College.  She brought her technical skills to the field of assistive technology while working as an Assistive Technology Specialist for the Yakima School District.  Linda holds an AT Specialist Certificate and enjoys being able to use her technology skills in helping students optimize their abilities using assistive technology.  Linda has been with the Special Education Technology Center for eleven years and has presented webinars and classes at national and statewide conferences.
