What is it?
Google’s translation tools—primarily Google Translate and built-in features in Google Workspace—allow users to convert text, documents, and web pages between different languages. These tools support over 100 languages and can be accessed on the web, in mobile apps, or directly within Google Docs. They are especially helpful in educational settings for multilingual learners and students with disabilities who benefit from language support to access and engage with instructional content.
How to use it?
To use Google Translate, go to translate.google.com or use the mobile app. Users can type, paste, or speak text to be translated, or upload documents for automatic translation. In Google Docs, you can go to Tools > Translate Document to create a copy of your document in another language. Browser extensions and Chrome's built-in translation feature also allow students to translate full web pages instantly, supporting real-time access to content.
Why use it?
Translation tools promote inclusion by helping students who are emergent bilinguals or come from multilingual households understand and participate in classroom activities. For students with disabilities, especially those with language processing or communication challenges, these tools can bridge gaps in understanding and expression. By integrating translation into inclusive school settings, educators support equitable access to content, communication with families, and meaningful engagement for all learners.
