What is it?
Pictello is a multimedia storytelling app designed to create and share personalized visual stories using photos, text, and audio. In an inclusive classroom, Pictello can be used to support a wide range of learners by making content more accessible, predictable, and meaningful. Stories can represent real experiences, classroom routines, academic concepts, or social situations, helping bridge understanding for students who benefit from visual and auditory supports, including those who use AAC or have language, literacy, or cognitive differences.
How to use it?
In practice, educators or students create simple, customized stories by adding photos (real images are especially powerful), writing short text, and recording narration. These stories can be used to preview upcoming events, explain routines, support transitions, or reinforce academic content. For example, a teacher might create a Pictello story about “Our Morning Routine” with images of the actual classroom and students, or a peer group might co-create a story to explain the steps of a science experiment. Students can also participate in making their own stories, giving them a voice in sharing experiences or demonstrating understanding. Stories can be revisited as often as needed, supporting repetition and consistency.
Why use it?
Pictello supports inclusive practice by providing multiple means of representation and expression, aligning with principles of Universal Design for Learning. It helps reduce language demands while increasing comprehension through visual and auditory supports. Because stories are personalized and context-specific, they can increase engagement, independence, and confidence for learners who may otherwise struggle with abstract language or unfamiliar situations. Additionally, Pictello fosters participation and connection, allowing all students to access, create, and share meaningful content alongside their peers.
