This course is developed for teachers, para educators, AT Specialists, EdTech Directors, SLPs, OTs, and other professionals supporting school-aged children or adolescents with significant disabilities. No prerequisite learning or materials required

Course Overview
This professional development module introduces educators to the transformative potential of generative AI in K-12 education, focusing on tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, and MagicSchool. It provides a foundational understanding of key AI concepts, explores practical applications for personalized learning, critical thinking activities, and accessibility, and addresses challenges such as bias and cultural responsiveness. Through examples and adaptable strategies, educators are equipped to leverage AI to enhance curriculum delivery, support diverse learners, and foster student engagement in an increasingly digital world.
What You Will Learn
- Foundations & Function: Explain how generative AI works (training, key terms, and why errors/hallucinations occur).
- Practical Tool Use: Effectively use multiple AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, Claude; Brisk, Diffit, MagicSchool) to import curriculum materials and craft/refine prompts that yield accurate, useful outputs.
- Accessible, Inclusive Design: Create AI-supported learning materials (e.g., study guides, activities, leveled texts) that maintain rigor while improving accessibility and cultural relevance for diverse learners.
- Critical Evaluation & Ethics: Evaluate AI outputs for quality and bias; identify equity implications; and apply strategies to mitigate bias and advocate for inclusive AI practices.
Course Completion Requirements
- Attend the entirety of the program. Partial credit will not be available. Attendance will be tracked by our learning management system. Complete one online assignment. These are ungraded, but must be completed
- Achieve 100% on three 3-question quizzes after chapters 2-4. Unlimited retakes are available. Complete a final 3 question quiz
