Have you been looking for an alternative to pencil and paper for your students to do math?  Join Marcia Edel as she demonstrates KiwiWrite, an on-screen keyboard she designed specifically for math.  Marcia will demonstrate how this on-screen keyboard can support students who need alternative access to math from basic arithmetic to higher-level trigonometry and calculus.

Participants will be able to:

Learn about this “web-based application that gives students an on-screen interface to write math equations on their computers or tablets.”  – including solving problems in the typical vertical manner

Evaluate which students will benefit from this support

Analyze the features of the program to see if it will benefit their students.

Presenters

Marcia Edel

Marcia is the founder and product designer for KiwiWrite Math.  Her professional background includes work in computer science and graphic design.  She is also a parent of a student with dysgraphia and fine motor challenges, now in college.  Her own daughter’s struggles with handwriting math inspired her to create this tool specifically geared toward the needs of students with disabilities.

Linda Doehle, AT Specialist


Linda Doehle started her career as a software engineer after completing her degrees in Computer Science and Mathematics at Whitworth College.  She brought her technical skills to the field of assistive technology while working as an Assistive Technology Specialist for the Yakima School District.  Linda holds an AT Specialist Certificate and enjoys being able to use her technology skills in helping students optimize their abilities using assistive technology.  Linda has been with the Special Education Technology Center for ten years and has presented webinars and classes at national and statewide conferences.
