This AAC group social meeting is in its 3rd year!  We have changed the format to more frequent 30 minute meetings 2 times per month with some interview style conversations on specific topics to kick off each session. Our goal is to connect AAC users, their families and providers in a relaxed interactive video chat environment! Karanveer is an expert and very social AAC user who hopes to provide a friendly online forum to support AAC users and their families.  He hopes to give an opportunity for each person to share their feelings, experiences and ideas with the group.  Karanveer will be ready to answer any questions and will be responsive to the needs and interests expressed by the group. Come join us!

Learning Objectives: 

  1. Participants will share their personal experiences of using/supporting AAC devices in an online learning model.
  2. Participants will explain how to leverage AAC devices to engage students in their school, community and pursue their passions.

Presenters

Karanveer Singh

Karanveer is a charismatic young man living with cerebral palsy who communicates primarily with a dynamic eye gaze communication system. He is a college student and business owner who enjoys sharing how Assistive Technology has helped him overcome his disability to more fully participate in his family life, school and community. His goals are to be successful as a professional movie editor and help other people with disabilities. His business, Handsomejatt Consulting Services, includes contracts for film editing, speaking and consulting for local school districts and other professional organizations in Washington State. He has presented as a keynote speaker, facilitated webinars and engaged many audiences with his interactive Question and Answer sessions. Karanveer will capture your heart and inspire you as he shares how assistive technology has changed his life and helped him communicate with the world. 

Heidi G. Brislin, MS-OTR/L

Heidi is an Occupational Therapist and Assistive Technology Specialist for the Special Education Technology Center,  Edmonds School District, and owns a private practice in Kingston, WA. Heidi has extensive experience in school-based practice, inpatient and outpatient adult rehab settings. She has degrees from Boston University and the University of Washington. Heidi is passionate about teaching teams to create authentic learning opportunities, improving literacy skills, switch access, power mobility and helping children become autonomous communicators. Heidi has presented nationally and throughout Washington.
