Description
Sustainable AAC implementation requires alignment across teams, goals, and systems. While clinicians may successfully integrate AI into individual sessions, long-term impact depends on how these practices are embedded into educational planning & team collaboration. This session focuses on integrating AI& AAC into educational systems through IEP development, team collaboration & literacy planning.
Learning Objectives
Participants will:
- Develop one IEP goal that integrates AAC, AI-supported language expansion, and literacy
- Identify two strategies for supporting team implementation of AI in AAC across settings
- Apply one framework for documenting progress in language, authorship, and literacy
Agenda
8:30 AM – 8:45 AM (15 min) | Introductions, disclosures, session objectives.
8:45 AM – 9:00 AM (15 min) | AAC implementation across systems. Barriers to consistency in school and team environments
9:00 AM – 9:30 AM (30 min) | Literacy integration within AAC goals and instruction. Connecting communication, curriculum, and participation.
9:30 AM – 10:00 AM (30 min) | Writing IEP goals that reflect authorship, language, and literacy. Aligning goals with functional and academic outcomes.
10:00 AM – 10:35 AM (35 min) | Team collaboration and training. Supporting teachers, paraprofessionals, and families.
10:35 AM – 11:05 AM (30 min) | Embedding AI into classroom and therapy environments. Ensuring consistency and appropriate use.
11:05 AM – 11:20 AM (15 min) | Progress monitoring and documentation. Tracking language growth, authorship, and literacy.
11:20 AM – 11:30 AM (10 min) | Summary, reflection, and participant questions.
Course Completion Requirements:
Completion requires learners to (1) view/attend the instructional presentation in full; (2) complete informal learning assessment/reflection. Attendance will be monitored through Zoom.
Course requirements must be submitted no later than 5/5/2027.
Partial credit will not be offered.

SLPs in K-12 schools working with students who use AAC.
