What is it?

Readtopia is a comprehensive, research-based literacy curriculum designed for upper elementary through high school students with complex learning needs, including autism, intellectual disabilities, and developmental differences. Developed by Building Wings, it integrates English language arts with science, social studies, math, and life skills through thematic units that combine adapted literature, leveled graphic novels, informational texts, and multimedia resources. Grounded in the work of Dr. Karen Erickson and Dr. David Koppenhaver, Readtopia aims to make literacy instruction accessible and engaging for learners with diverse abilities.

How to use it?

To implement Readtopia, educators access its cloud-based platform, which offers over 30 thematic units complete with teacher guides, lesson plans, and differentiated materials. Each unit includes videos to build background knowledge, phonics and word study activities, and assessments to monitor progress. The curriculum's design allows teachers to provide individualized instruction, catering to a wide range of student needs and learning styles.
