Description

ASHA CEUs pending approval.

This intermediate two-day AAC series supports ethical, effective implementation across complex contexts. Day 1 addresses foundational AAC practices including access, vocabulary, partner strategies, and acquisition pathways. Day 2 emphasizes advanced clinical reasoning related to CVI, alternative access methods, and ethical evaluation of emerging AI-supported AAC systems using case-based learning.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this 9-hour conference, participants will be able to:

  • Analyze AAC system features, access methods, and visual presentation to support authentic communication across a range of environments and learner profiles.
  • Differentiate between communication partner strategies that promote AAC user independence, agency, and intent and those that may unintentionally limit participation.
  • Apply AAC implementation strategies that integrate access, environment, and acquisition considerations to support sustainable communication systems.
  • Demonstrate intermediate-level clinical reasoning by evaluating AAC adaptations for individuals with CVI, selecting appropriate alternative access methods, and critically examining the ethical use of AI-supported AAC features
