An AAC device, or Augmentative and Alternative Communication device, is a tool that helps people communicate when they have difficulty speaking. These devices range from simple, non-electronic aids like picture boards to complex, high-tech “speech-generating devices” (SGDs) that produce synthesized speech. AAC systems support or replace spoken and written language for individuals with conditions affecting speech.
