In session 2 of this 4 part series, participants will learn about sentence building support programs such as Clicker 8 & Clicker Writer and Sentence Building apps. Discussion on how to scaffold supports to gradually build more independence and robust sentences.
“Express Yourself in Writing” Series is a 4-session series in which participants compare, analyze and discuss tools and strategies for students to express themselves from emerging writer skills through more fluent writers. These classes will be structured in an interactive format with 30 minutes of content presentation followed by small group discussion and then implementation planning time. The goal is to leave with 1 or 2 implementation strategies for each session.
- Participants will compare and analyze tools and strategies for students to express themselves
- Participants will share their own experiences with writers at various writing levels
- Participants will implement at least one new tool or strategy with a student they work with who is struggling with writing
Rose Racicot, MS, OTR/L
Rose is an OT and Assistive Technology Specialist in Bellevue School District and at Special Education Technology Center at CWU with 34 years of experience. Her passion is to help school districts and educators implement Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles to create inclusive classrooms for all students to succeed. Rose facilitates learning experiences on UDL, literacy support software, educational iPad apps, and accessibility features across platforms at the local, state, and national level both in-person and through remote learning.
Heidi G. Brislin, MS-OTR/L
Heidi is an Occupational Therapist and Assistive Technology Specialist for the Special Education Technology Center, Edmonds School District, and owns a private practice in Kingston, WA. Heidi has extensive experience in school-based practice, inpatient and outpatient adult rehab settings. She has degrees from Boston University and University of Washington. Heidi is passionate about teaching teams to create authentic learning opportunities, improving literacy skills, switch access, power mobility, and helping children become autonomous communicators. Heidi has presented Nationally and throughout Washington.
